Arlington County
This area of land formerly known as Alexandria County of the District of
Columbia was returned to the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1846. Alexandria and
Arlington separated in 1870 and in 1920 the name Arlington County was adopted.
Today this 26 square mile urban area of land is home to just under 200,000
residents.
